Ireland: Children’s Day of Mission Prayer which we held in the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly

Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly celebrated ‘Children’s Day of Mission Prayer’ with over 700 school children in Thurles, Co. Tipperary on Friday, 11thOctober 2019. The second Friday of October is the day chosen in Ireland for children to gather and pray for children in other parts of the world, especially those in mission dioceses.  Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly, SMA is the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly in Ireland. The Archbishop was on mission in West Africa and was delighted to welcome approximately 700 students from St Ailbhe’s School, St Angela’s School, St Brigid’s School, Morcarkey National School, St Mary’s School, and Rahealty National School to the Cathedral of the Assumption. Éirinn the Lamb from the World Meeting of Families, was there to greet the children after the prayer service. The celebration, which is now in its 12th year, took place in schools all across the island of Ireland with the Cathedral chosen for a central celebration of joyful prayer and singing. The purpose of the annual Children’s Day of Mission Prayer is to help transform our world for the better by supporting children through prayer and encouraging acts of kindness. The event is coordinated by the Society of Missionary Children in Ireland. The National Secretary for the Society of Missionary Children, Ms Julieann Moran, and local teacher, Ms Deirdre Lanigan, prepared the celebration with the theme ‘Together We are Mission.’
