Bosnia-Herzegovina: fervent missionary initiatives in the dioceses

The bishops of the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia-Herzegovina have decided to invite all of the faithful, priests, men and women and religious, to unite in prayer and good deeds to the commitment of the universal Church, so that missionary activity may be strengthened in the life and pastoral care of all local communities. The bishops recalled that, for at least four centuries, 1622-2006, all of their dioceses have been under the direct jurisdiction of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and are very grateful to the Congregation for its generous support and help, for which pushes them to have an even greater commitment.

Together with the intention and work of the whole Church, and from the announcement of the Missionary Year and the Extraordinary Missionary Month in the dioceses, the bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Bosnia-Herzegovina have given recommendations on how to prepare for the initiatives and carry them out. First of all, they hoped that the PMU national offices ( in the photo the Director, Tunjić, and his collaborator show the missionary collection of the PMS BiH office)  and the diocesan mission offices would be involved in supporting the parish priests in the organization of conferences and activities to promote missions. They then recommended that the parish priests take advantage of the presence of missionaries to stimulate the missionary work of the Church and to propose a community prayer for missions in the diocesan parishes to be recited at the end of every Sunday Mass and feast day, beginning from October 2018 to the end of October 2019. The bishops also encouraged the next meeting of priests to focus on the theme of mission, according to letters of Pope Benedict XV and Pope Francis, the mission Ad Gentes decree from the Second Vatican Council and other documents on mission. In addition, the bishops stressed the importance of holding lectures as part of Faculty Day in Sarajevo 2019 on the theme of mission.

Along with the recommendations provided by the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia-Herzegovina, there is also the need to collect materials for missionaries and their collaborators in order to build spaces for prayer and pastoral care, and for the formation of candidates for the priesthood and religious life in mission countries. Lastly, the bishops asked that families and parish communities pray the "Missionary Rosary" every day, during the month of October 2019, in hopes that the pastors will obtain a sufficient number of "Missionary Rosaries," where the five colors symbolize the Church in all five continents.
