Uganda: The Golden Jubilee of the Catechetical Formation Center in the Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana
The Golden Jubilee of the Catechetical Formation Center in the Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana in Uganda was held on March 2. More than a thousand catechists, who carry out a precious missionary activity, were present at the event. This Jubilee celebration was a particularly important moment in the formation process of the preparations for the Extraordinary Missionary Month October 2019 celebrations in the spirit of missio ad gentes.
The catechists are the closest collaborators with priests in evangelizing and reaching families and small Christian communities in the country. Therefore, in their homily and speeches the themes related to ongoing catechist formation were discussed, since they need to be constantly updated and adequately prepared to respond to the challenges that the contemporary world continues to bring to evangelization so that they may be able to bring the Gospel to the peripheries of Ugandan society.
In the pictures, Msgr. Joseph Antony Zziwa, Bishop of the Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana and President of the Ugandan Bishops' Conference, is shown with the catechists who attended the Kiyinda Catechetical Formation Center with a group of parish priests. He was attended at the end of the Holy Mass with Matia Ssemakula, catechist and national representative of the catechists in Uganda, and the catechists of the Archdiocese of Kampala, together with their Chaplain Fr. Joseph Sserugga. In the other photo, the Director of the Center for Catechetical Formation, Fr. Emmanuel Katongole, is shown.
